Ex-Chargers: Where Are They Now?

Everyone has their favorite San Diego Chargers players, well what if the player you follow is an Ex-Charger? Well we follow them as well. The list is updated as new news becomes available and we even provide the most recent stories about your favorite Ex-Chargers. We try and keep the list updated with stats as well, but our focus is on our current players first. Players that are no longer in the league will be dropped from this current list.

Notes: Originally drafted by the Chargers in the 7th round of the 2001 Draft, 201st overall. He was signed by the Pats on January 7th, 2003.
Trent Green QB KC
Notes: Originally drafted by the Chargers in the 8th round of the 1993 NFL Draft, 222nd overall. He was waived on August 22nd, 1994. Green is now the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2002, he went 287-470 for 3,690 yards with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Mikhael Ricks TE Detroit Lions
Notes: Originally drafted by the Chargers in the 2nd round of the 1998 NFL Draft, 59th overall. Now plays tight end for Detroit where he had 27 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns in 2002.
Shawn Jefferson WR Atlanta Falcons
Notes: Originally a ninth round (240th pick overall) draft choice by Houston in 1991. Traded along with a first-round draft choice in 1992 (Chris Mims) to San Diego in exchange for DL Lee Williams on August 22, 1991. San Diego released his rights (along with Natrone Means) to free room under the salary cap when they signed free agent defensive end Marco Coleman on February 29, 1996. Jefferson now plays for the Atlanta Falcons and had 27 receptions for 394 yards and one touchdown in 2002.
Trevor Gaylor WR Atlanta Falcons
Notes: Was traded to Atlanta on September 1st, 2002 for a 2004 7th round draft pick. Gaylor played in 11 games and had 25 receptions for 385 yards and three touchdowns in 2002.
Eric Metcalf RB/WR Green Bay
Notes: Spent just one season in San Diego (1997) before settling in Green Bay in December of 2002. He was signed to help Green Bay in their playoff push and had three reurns total (including the postseason) for 59 yards.
Steve Heiden TE Cleveland Browns
Notes: Originally Heiden was drafted by the Chargers in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft, 69th overall. Heiden was traded to the Browns on August 31st, 2002 for a 7th round draft pick. He ended the season with 17 receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown.
Freddie Jones TE Arizona Cardinals
Notes: Originally Jones was drafted by the Chargers in the second round fo the 1997 NFL Draft, 46th overall. He signed a three year contract on March 18th, 2002 after being spurned by the Chargers. Jones finished the season with 44 receptions for 358 yards and one touchdown.
DeMingo GrahamG Houston Texans
Notes:Graham was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Hofstra in 1998. He was not retained prior to the 2002 season by the Chargers. Played in 14 games for Houston in 2002, starting 11.
Kendyl Jacox G New Orleans Saints
Notes: Jacox was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State and played center, guard and halfback for the Bolts. New Orleans signed him to a five year contract on May 28th, 2002. He started all 16 games for the Saints at Center.
Raleigh Roundtree G Arizona Cardinals
Notes: Originally he was drafted by the Chargers in the fourth round of the 1997 NFL Draft, 109th overall. Saw action in 10 games for Arizona, 6 as a starter.
John Holecek LB Atlanta Falcons
Notes:Signed as a as a free agent on July 26, 2001 after spending his first five seasons with the Bills. He joined Atlanta for 2002 and in 11 games and had 53 tackles and one sack.
Sam Rogers LB Atlanta Falcons
Notes: Rogers signed a five year deal with the Chargers on May 18th, 2001 after spending his first season in Buffalo. He was released on June 6th, 2002. Played in 14 games for Atlanta in 2002, recording 41 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
Lew Bush LB KC
Notes: Originally a fourth round draft pick of the Chargers in 1993. He was released in March of 2000 after failing to restructure his contract. He played in 9 games and had 21 tackles for KC.
Norman Hand DT New Orleans
Notes: Bobby Beathard resurrected Hand's career in '97 after he was cut by the Dolphins. Hand got in shape, worked up the depth chart, and delivered two stellar seasons in '98-99. Hand was released on Feb. 16th, 2000 to make room for the eventual signing of Curtis Conway and DeRon Jenkins after being tabbed their franchise player. Hand had 38 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 2 stuffs in 2002.
John Parrella DT Oakland
Notes: Parrella moved to the Evil Empire after leaving San Diego. Ironically he came back to San Diego to play in his first Super Bowl. Parrella had 44 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and 3.5 stuffs in 2002.
Fakhir BrownCB New Orleans
Notes: Brown was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Grambling. Brown was released by the Chargers on Spet. 3rd, 2001. The Saints signed him to a two year deal July 16th, 2002 and he had 15 tackles, one forced fumble and five passes defensed in 2002.
Darrien GordonCB/PR Oakland Raiders
Notes: Gordon was a 1st round Draft pick of the Chargers in 1993, 22nd overall. Left as a UFA after 1996. Gordon was signed late to add a weapon on punt returns for the Raiders. He had one fair catch in the playoffs in 2002 for Oakland. He played for Green Bay most of the season and had 35 punt returns for 180 yards.
Jason PerryFS Cincinnati Bengals
Notes: Originally Perry was drafted by the Chargers in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft, 104th overall. He was released Sept. 3rd, 2002. Perry signed a one year deal with the Vikings on Oct. 3rd, 2002. He was released on Dec, 16th and picked up by the Bengals on Dec. 17th, 2002. He had 6 tackles and one fumble recovery in 2002.
John Carney K New Orleans
Notes: Originally joined San Diego as Plan B free agent from Tampa Bay, 4/2, but was released by team on final preseason roster cut, he received a second chance after fourth week of season and turned in top performance of any kicker in team history. Carney was not resigned after the 2000 season. Carney broke the single-season Saints scoring mark with 131 point points in 2002. That's ten more than Morten Andersen's 1987 mark.
Nate Turner WR New Orleans
Notes: Originally signed to the practice squad on 9/3/01. Cut from the Chargers on Aug. 25th, 2002. He was signed by the Saints on January 10th, 2003.
