Throw in free-for-all wild-card chases in both conferences, and it's shaping up as a drama-packed stretch run.
The Cowboys are still squarely in the picture in the NFC East and in the NFC wild-card hunt, but they're in for yet another long week of questions after falling to 5-10 in December with Tony Romo at quarterback.
"You don't want to fade out in December, you want to be peaking," said Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
Ease for him to say - Rivers is 16-0 as a starter in December.
The questions in Indianapolis and New Orleans, meanwhile, will fall under the category of "good problems to have." The Colts have wrapped up home-field advantage, the Saints are on the verge of doing so and both teams face the debate of whether to chase history or to chase health going into January.
While Colts coach Jim Caldwell has said he's not concerned about a perfect record, wide receiver Reggie Wayne said last week that he wants to chase history. The Saints' players appear to be singing a similar tune.
"It means a lot to us," said Saints quarterback Drew Brees. "These kind of years don't come around very often."
Unfortunately for Dallas, these kinds of Decembers do seem to come around on a yearly basis.
