Blount averaged just 3.7 ypc after his reinstatement, this after averaging 7.3 ypc in 2008. But he looked stronger as he worked himself into game shape, culminating with an impressive performance during Senior Bowl week in which he looked more like the '08 version of himself.
As a junior, Blount topped the 1,000-yard barrier and scored 17 rushing touchdowns despite logging only 137 carries.
RB Lagarrette Blount

When Blount flashed his junior-season form during Senior Bowl week, he looked similar to former Chargers RB Michael Turner. Blount played with a low pad level, initiated contact and pushed piles backwards. He also looked decisive and powerful, two traits the Chargers would love in their backfield.
The question remains: Is A.J. Smith convinced Blount's September transgression was a one-time mistake? Or have the Bolts tagged Blount as a character risk?
"It was a mistake on my behalf. I just lost my head and emotions got out of control," Blount said.
"I just learned that I have to keep my composure and watch my temper. You're going to have bad games and you're going to have bad days. You just have to handle them in different ways. The way I handled that situation was a mistake."
There is no question that Blount would be a terrific on-the-field addition to San Diego's offense. His power running style would be a perfect complement to Darren Sproles -- assuming San Diego can re-sign the shifty back -- and would boost a rushing attack that averaged a league-low 3.3 ypc.
The concern is whether Blount would be a solid addition to San Diego's locker room, where he would be stepping into the shoes of one of the all-time classy players.
For his part, Blount believes he has learned from his mistakes and is ready to be a team player.
"On the next level you have to play fast; you have to play hard; you have to finish runs; you have to learn that this game is way faster and way more physical than college football," he said.
Blount's professional education is an ongoing development. The question is where his studies will take him next. Steuber says the answer is San Diego; A.J. Smith's approval is still pending.
