Thomas tells us more about his experience in Indy in this pre-draft interview.
Michael Lombardo: How would you sum up your experience at the Combine?
Cam Thomas: That was the longest four days of my life, man. But it was only for a couple days. It was like a job interview, you know, so you just have to deal with it.
ML: How do you feel you performed in the individual drills?
DL Cam Thomas
ML: Are you happy with your numbers?
CT: Yeah, I'm pretty happy. I probably could have done better on some stuff, but it is what it is. Stuff happens for a reason. I still have my Pro Day if I want to change some things or do things differently.
ML: Which teams did you have formal interviews with?
CT: San Diego, New Orleans and Buffalo. That was basically it. But it went really good for me. Most of them talked about me playing a little nose, you know, basically being that anchor guy. I had a good time with all the coaches.
ML: What did the coaches ask you about your defense at North Carolina?
CT: Basically, it was a pro-style defense [at North Carolina]. Coaches just asked some questions about what the defense was about. Basically, we have a pro-style defense, a gap-schemed defense like a lot of teams in the league run, so I was familiar with most of the stuff they were talking about.
ML: What was the strangest question you were asked?
CT: There wasn't anything strange, really, just questions they want to know. They're really in depth. They just ask things like, 'Have you ever been in trouble? Have you ever been arrested?' Just like they would do at a job interview. They ask about your family and all that type of stuff.
ML: What was the most memorable part of the Combine for you?
CT: The coaches that you see on TV, you're right there performing in front of them. I would say that's the experience that really got me. I was just excited to work out for all the coaches and show them what I can do.
ML: What's the next step in your pre-draft process?
CT: I'm going to keep training in Georgia for the next couple weeks. Then I go to my Pro Day and just keep going with the interview process.
ML: Have any teams contacted you yet about setting up private visits?
CT: No, they haven't asked me about nothing like that yet. It might happen after my Pro Day (March 23). That's what I'm hoping for!
