Vincent Jackson told the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora that he is working out in Phoenix and is ready to play. But he faces a league-imposed three-game suspension, and if he doesn't report by Sept. 4, he will miss an additional three games because the Chargers placed him on the Roster Exempt List when he didn't report by Aug. 20.
"We're not being granted permission to speak to other teams and we're not even sure if they want to trade me," Jackson told La Canfora. "I would love to stay in San Diego. That's where I've been and I have a good relationship with the guys that are there. I miss being around my teammates, but again I understand the beast of the business. We're just controlling everything we can right now."
The Chargers gave Seattle permission to speak with Jackson, but the San Diego Union-Tribune reported the Seahawks balked at his request for a five-year, $50 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed. The report said Minnesota wasn't interested at that price tag, either.
Jackson's agents would like to be able to speak to more teams, but San Diego hasn't granted permission.
"We had a five-year deal, and I completed my five-year engagement and there has been no proposal," Jackson said. "... My job is to play football. I've always been told that you take care of stuff on the football field and the rest will take care of itself. That's where I continue to put my focus. I think that I belong [in San Diego], I think I'm a good fit there, but this league is a fly-by-night type of thing and I'm willing to go to wherever fits best."
--RB Ryan Mathews has been bothered by nosebleeds and decided to have a procedure to curb the issue. He missed Tuesday's practice to have his nose "cauterized" and said "it wasn't fun, but hopefully it works."
--OG Lee Grimes (released by Buccaneers 7/21) signed with San Diego.
--LB Ali Highsmith (from reserve/injured, injury settlement) was waived by San Diego.
