First Glance: 2011 Chiefs Schedule

After winning the AFC West a year ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were rewarded with a trio of prime time contests. However, when the NFL released its' final 2011 schedule Tuesday evening, the Chiefs inherited the leagues third toughest schedule. So how many games will they win this season?

Week #1 Bills vs. Chiefs - Last season Kansas City had to eek out a win in the waning seconds of overtime to nip the hapless team from Buffalo. This time around I can't see Kansas City looking past an improving Bills team led by former Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.
Prediction: Chiefs 23 – Bills 16 / KC Record: 1-0

Week #2 Chiefs @ Lions - The Chiefs may have been better off playing this game in the Motor City on Thanksgiving day. Detroit is an improving team and you know former Chiefs Defensive Coordinator Gunther Cunningham is going to be chomping at the bit to bring pressure against KC Quarterback Matt Cassel and company. This game will be anything but easy for Kansas City.
Prediction: Chiefs 17 – Lions 16 / KC Record: 2-0

Week #3 Chiefs @ Chargers - Kansas City laid an egg at San Diego a year ago but they did hold off a late season San Diego run to win the AFC West. And KC's chances might not be so daunting this time around. The Chargers are notorious for starting the season slowly and the Chiefs might catch them napping.
Prediction: Chargers 31 – Chiefs 24 / KC Record: 2-1

Week #4 Vikings vs. Chiefs - The return of Jared Allen to Kansas City could make this game the hottest ticket of the entire 2011 home schedule. The Vikings are in a quandary at the quarterback position so this game should be a relative cakewalk for the Chiefs.
Prediction: Chiefs 27 – Vikings 16
/ KC Record 3-1

Week #5 Chiefs @ Colts - There is no question that Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning isn't what he was a few years ago but he's still the heart and soul of this football team. Kansas City should have won at Indy a year ago but fell victims to their own blunders. Still their performance last year despite their offensive mishaps told the rest of the league that they could play tough on the road.
Prediction: Colts 26 – Chiefs 21
/ KC Record: 3-2

Week #6 BYE WEEK

Week #7 Chiefs @ Raiders - We all knew what happen a year ago in Oakland. The Chiefs dominated the first half but an interception at the goal line in the final ticks of the first half, gave Oakland new life. This game isn't going to be easy and more than likely the Raiders are going to be the team to beat in 2011. So if Kansas City is serious about defending their AFC West crown they have to play mistake free football.
Prediction: Raiders 31 – Chiefs 23 / KC Record: 3-3

Week #8 Chargers vs. Chiefs - The folks at ESPN had such a great time at Arrowhead a year ago they're getting second helping of Monday Night football in Kansas City. Halloween night should be a spooky evening and if this game is anything like the 2010 season opener, this might be one wild ride for the Arrowhead faithful. I know this the Chargers are going to want revenge and will do whatever it takes to sweep the Chiefs in 2011.
Prediction: Chiefs 41 – Chargers 23 / KC Record: 4-3

Week #9 Dolphins @ Chiefs - Miami was a huge disappointment a year ago. And with their quarterback situation a complete mess, it would appear this is a game the Chiefs should easily win. However, the same was said a year ago when the Bills road into town in the middle of the season.
Prediction: Chiefs 21 – Dolphins 17
/ KC Record: 5-3

Week #10 Broncos vs. Chiefs - Three games at home in the middle of the season is really going to help this team get back on the winning track. The Broncos are going to be much improved this year thanks to the veteran leadership of Head Coach John Fox. As division rivals, there won't be much either team doesn't know about each other. This game could be a defensive gem or a wild offensive shootout. Either way Arrowhead is going to be rocking.
Prediction: Chiefs 17 – Broncos 13 / KC Record 6-3

Week #11 Chiefs @ Patriots - Fans wanted this game last season during the 2010 playoffs. But the folks at ESPN put the Chiefs into another Monday Night contest. And this go around it's the Patriot Way of New England versus the Patriot way in Kansas City. I can't wait to see how Chiefs defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel plans to stop Quarterback Tom Brady and company.
Prediction: Chiefs 34 – Patriots 31 / KC Record 7-3

In a six day span, the Chiefs will face the Patriots Tom Brady and the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger.

Week #12 Steelers vs. Chiefs - NBC brings their act to Kansas City for a game that features a pair of 2010 AFC Division winners. The Steelers are pound for pound one of the toughest teams in the league but have struggled at Arrowhead in the past. This is a statement game for the Chiefs especially after their upset victory at New England just six days earlier.
Prediction: Chiefs 26 – Steelers 24
/ KC Record 8-3

Week #13 Chiefs @ Bears - The Bears nearly went to the Super Bowl a year ago and they are loaded on defense and solid on offense. The Chiefs haven't played very well in the Windy City in years past. And I don't have a good feeling about this game. The Bears play very well in cold weather and as December hit a year ago they were very tough to defeat. And they know they can't lose to the Chiefs if they want to get back to the playoffs.
Prediction: Bears 34 – Chiefs 16 / KC Record 8-4

Week #14 Chiefs @ Jets - Rex Ryan and company are going to be fighting for their lives late in the season to make the 2011 post season. Kansas City has been pitiful at every New York stadium outside of old Shea Stadium. The Chiefs also generally never win games on the east coast in December and I'm afraid they won't shock the Jets like they did the Patriots a few weeks earlier.
Prediction: Jets 24 – Chiefs 13 / KC Record: 8-5

Week #15 Packers vs. Chiefs - The defending Super Bowl champs have one of the most difficult schedules in 2011. And heading into Arrowhead with the Chiefs losing two games in a row might be a task too tall for even the Packers. Kansas City has to get back into the divisional race and they must defeat Green Bay to keep their playoff hopes alive. Plus this might be a great Flex Game for NBC should both teams still be fighting for division titles in their respective conferences.
Prediction: Chiefs 34 – Packers 28
/ KC Record: 9-5

Week #16 Raiders vs. Chiefs - I can say with absolute certainty that the Raiders won't run the table against the AFC West again this year. And should they stand 4-0 entering this contest against the division, they're going home losers. Kansas City blew a golden opportunity to set themselves up for a strong playoff run and a much easier 2011 schedule had they defeated Oakland at Kansas City in the final game of the regular season. This time the guys in Red will be ready to spoil any playoff hopes the Raiders might have entering the second to last game of the season.
Prediction: Chiefs 27 – Raiders 19 / KC Record: 10-5

Week #17 Chiefs @ Broncos - Two years ago this final regular season game set the tone for the Chiefs resurgence in 2010. However, this time playoffs will likely be on the line. This could be the biggest game in the Todd Haley era. A win gets Kansas City back into the playoffs. A loss puts them out of the post-season tournament as AFC West Champions. I want to go with my heart in this game but my gut tells me otherwise. But don't despair Chiefs fans, because ten wins will be enough to get a wild card birth for Kansas City.
Prediction: Broncos 31 – Chiefs 28 OT / KC Final Record 10-6

The way the 2011 schedule lays out for the Chiefs are ten wins possible?
