FINAL 7-Round: Chiefs Mock Draft

On Thursday evening the NFL Draft will begin. The Chiefs, should they keep their 21st pick, will be on the clock around 9:00 this evening. So which direction will they go, we offer our takes on the players that could fill the Chiefs roster in 2011.

Nick Jacobs: (from New England) 1. Jabaal Sheard OLB (Pittsburgh) - He would be the perfect compliment to Tamba Hali and force teams from being able to double Hali The Chiefs pass rush will be the key to this upcoming season What is so promising about Sheard is his use of his hands I like how well he excels at shedding blocks and creating havoc in the backfield He would be an impact player for KC immediately If they do not improve there outside pass rush opposite Tamba, the Chiefs will be in for a long season

Nick Athan: (from Seattle) 1 Corey Liguet DT (Illinois) - There is no question the Kansas City Chiefs can't run a 3-4 defense without a massive defensive tackle Thanks to a run at other positions most notably the second tier quarterbacks in the back end of the first round, the Chiefs find their man in the middle Rome Crennel will work wonders with Liguet who will bring out the best in Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey The Chiefs spent a lot of time scouting Liguet a year ago when they were looking at his former offensive teammate, Guard Jon Asamoah

Nick Jacobs: (from New England) 2A Colin Kaepernick QB (Nevada) - There is no doubt Chiefs fans saw first hand how much KC needs a backup Kaepernick has the intangibles that define the lessons taught by Parcells Colin handles pressure very well, he is poised in the pocket, and he takes over in key situations and forces his teammates to raise their game as well Consistent is a word that I think will become a synonymous with Kaepernick I think when it is all said and done Colin will have just as successful of a career as QB's taken above him

There is talk that Colin Kaepernick could go as high as the middle of round one.

Nick Athan: 2A Justin Houston OLB (Georgia) - Another stroke of luck for Scott Pioli and company Thanks to Houston's problem at the NFL combine where he reportedly tested positive for Marijuana, the Chiefs gain another outside pass rusher to compliment Tamba Hali I know it's a stretch that he could fall this far but I also would not rule out the Chiefs moving up ten spots if he's still on the board I know he goes against everything that Pioli is looking for in a player but he's worth the risk

Nick Jacobs: 2B Jerrell Jernigan WR (Troy) - The Chiefs need a guy that can stretch the field and make safeties respect the deep ball I think Jernigan can fit the bill and on top of that, he is fearless over the middle and a tough wide receiver that isn't a big project He can adjust to the ball impressively and once he has the ball in his hands, it can go to the house at any moment Remind you of anyone? (cough cough Jamaal Charles)

Indiana Tackle James Brewer could start for KC in 2011 at right tackle

Nick Jacobs: 3 Ben Ijalna OT (Villanova) - Ben has great size at 6'4, 318 He started all four years at left tackle for Villanova He doesn't play stiff in the hips I like his driving ability at the point of attack And how he locks on to his defender.

Nick Athan: 3 James Brewer OT (Indiana) – The Chiefs select their second Big 10 player in this draft Brewer will open the season at right tackle for the Chiefs and that means Barry Richardson returns to a back-up role That's not a bad thing for this football team considering they don't have any other candidates to fill in either tackle spot should either Branden Albert or Brewer go down to a season ending injury

Nick Jacobs: 4 Ian Williams NT (Notre Dame) - Williams is purely a rotational nose tackle He will not be a guy who pushes the pocket back in pass rushing situations He doesn't get blown up by double teams, he is good against the run and he hustles on plays

Ian Williams had a solid career for Notre Dame.

Nick Athan: 4 Pat Devlin QB (Delaware) - In my first mock draft I had the Chiefs grabbing the Delaware quarterback Though I'm sick the team passed up on Colin Kaepernick in round one (at least in my draft scenario), I really like Devlin He transferred from Penn State and put up some solid numbers

Nick Jacobs: 5A Luke Stocker TE Tennessee - Stocker will not be Tony Moeaki part two But I think Stocker can be a solid #2 in the NFL He is a smart football player that can cut off routes He has a good down block I like how effective he is at the 2nd level in terms of blocking in the run game I think he would be a good compliment to Moeaki

Chiefs need another tight end opposite Tony Moeaki.

Nick Athan: 5A Roy Helu, Jr. RB (Nebraska) - I can't back off my love for the Cornhuskers running back I know that Todd Haley has indicated that Dexter McCluster will move to running back this season and that he still has a love affair with Thomas Jones but the Chiefs can't pass on Helu He's going to be an NFL workhorse who can play any of the three down I see him, even with his lack of height, as a player who could play some fullback for the Chiefs

Nick Jacobs: 5B Clint Boling OG (Georgia) - The guard out of Georgia is a lunch pale guy He is a smart player, competitive and he is going to be sound in his technique If you give him a couple of seasons, he could move into the starting lineup

Nick Athan: 5B Robert Sands S (West Virginia) - You ask why do the Chiefs need another safety? Well Jon McGraw is on the decline and you can't have enough hard hitting fast safeties patrolling the back end of your defense Sands is one of the fastest ones at his position in this draft and speed kills in the NFL

Sands work at the NFL Combine put him into the fifth round.

Nick Jacobs: 6 Brandon Fusco C (Slippery Rock) - Fusco is like the 3 bears story He is not to big, he is not to small, he is just right Fusco's size, strength and athleticism are a nice combination He has quick feet for a guy his size He is going to need time to develop but when he does I think KC will have found themselves a solid center

Nick Athan: 6 Zach Hurd OG (Connecticut) - Another mammoth offensive lineman that could be a solid back-up for the Chiefs At some point Brian Waters is going to retire or be released Hurd could spend two or three seasons being groomed to replace Ryan Lilja at right guard while Jon Asamoah take over the duties for Waters as early as this season

Nick Jacobs: 7 Demarco Cosby TE (Central Missouri) - I think Cosby is a player to take a flyer on He works his butt off He is solid in his route running, he is athletic for his size He needs to work on his blocking but I think he can work his way onto an NFL roster

The Chiefs have to add a young center at some point in this draft.

Nick Athan: 7 Jake Kirkpatrick C (TCU)- This is simply a need pick and the Chiefs taking a flyer on a player that could make a run at center in 2012

Nick Jacobs Trade Scenario #1 - The Chiefs trade their 21st pick in round one to New England for their 28th pick in round one and the Patriots second round pick #33

Nick Athan Trade Scenario #2 - The Chiefs trade their 21st pick in round one to Seattle for their 25th pick in round one and the Seahawks second round pick in 2012
