Chiefs Deal #21 to Cleveland

When it came time for the Kansas City Chiefs to make their first selection in round one they took about seven minutes to trade their pick to the Cleveland Browns.

With names such as Wisconsin Tackle Gabe Carimi, Outside Linebacker Justin Houston and Tackle Anthony Castonzo still on the board as well as injured Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers, Kansas City General Manager Scott Pioli passed on all of them and traded the 21st selection to the Cleveland Browns

The rumors all day gave persistent probability that the Chiefs would make at least one move in round one Though the Chiefs had multiple options and trade partners based on the way the wild first round was moving, they settled for the Browns offer that yielded them the #27 pick of round one and the Browns third round pick, #70

With the Chiefs selection, the Browns took Baylor Defensive Tackle Phil Taylor Ironically his name was floating around as a possible selection of the Chiefs But injuries and poor workouts made him a risky move that high in the draft for Kansas City

The Browns were able to make that move after they voided their slot in round one sending the sixth overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons where they selected Alabama Wide Receiver Julio Jones That deal netted the Browns six draft picks
