Predicting the Final 53 for the Chiefs

With roster cuts on the table for Saturday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs still have some holes to shore up to get ready for the regular season opener a week from Sunday at Houston. So will there be any surprises when the team makes it's initial cut line down to the league minimum 53?

Wide Receiver (7)

Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, Chris Conley, Albert Wilson, De’Anthony Thomas, Da’Ron Brown, Fred Williams

Tight End (3)

Travis Kelce, James O’Shaughnessy, Demetrius Harris,

Offensive Line (8)

Ben Grubbs, Laurent Duverney-Tardiff, Paul Fanaika, Mitch Morse, Zach Fulton, Jeff Allen, Donald Stephenson, Eric Fisher.

Running Back/Fullback (4)

Jamaal Charles, Knile Davis, Charcandrick West, Anthony Sherman

Quarterback (3)

Alex Smith, Aaron Murray, Chase Daniel

Summary: The waiver wire or weekend trade should prodice the Chiefs eight offensive lineman. Kansas City still needs to fing another guard to fill out their offensive line. Now this could change if the Chiefs put Jeff Allen on injured reserve. If that's the case, I suspect KC will indeed make a trade to shore up the tackle position. In addition, I would not be shocked one bit if the Chiefs deal veteran, Quarterback Chase Daniel and carry just two QB's into the regular season.

Defensive ine (6)

Allen Bailey, Mike DeVito, Mike Catapano, Jaye Howard, Dontari Poe, Rakeem Nunez-Roches.

Linebacker (8)

Justin Houston, Josh Mauga, D.J. Alexander, Ramik Wilson, Derrick Johnson, James-Michael Johnson, Tamba Hali, TBD (1)

Cornerback (7)

Sean Smith, Phillip Gaines, Marcus Peters, Jamell Fleming, Steven Nelson, Marcus Cooper, TBD (1)

Safety (4)

Husain Abdullah, Eric Berry, Tyvon Branch, Ron Parker

Summary: With the three game suspension to Sean Smith, I suspect GM John Dorsey will add depth at the corner position. Of the men listed above only Steven Nelson isn't ready for the regular season. He's looked terrible in the pre-season but KC has little choice but to keep him on the roster at this point. In addition, KC is still thin at inside linebacker. Though Alexander and Wilson have been solid in August, I'd like to think KC will scour the waiver wire to add a veteran inside backer.
