Chiefs Start Early with Cuts

Trying to get a jump on roster cuts, the Chiefs released six more players and gave notice to a couple of veterans as they start to trim the roster down to the league limit of 53 players.

Cut on Friday afternoon were local Mid-American wide receiver product John Booth, running back Ronnie Cruz, recently signed free agent defensive end Robert Flickinger from Georgetown (Kentucky), Syracuse cornerback Willie Ford, center Jonathan Ingram from San Diego State and Syracuse linebacker Rich Scanlon.

The Chiefs also announced that veteran place-kicker Morten Andersen and punter Jason Baker will be released sometime before Sunday. That leaves the Chiefs with 15 more roster cuts.

It's a safe bet that veteran linebacker Mike Maslowski will be one of those cut and rookie tight end Kris Wilson might be placed on injured reserve depending on the results of his surgery today to repaid a broken fibula.

The tough cuts will be along the defensive line and secondary where the Chiefs have been stock-piling players in hopes of having enough quality depth to start the season.
