Turkey-Day Predictions

If you're one of the lucky souls to be taking part in a local Turkey Bowl with friends and family, I'm envious. The last Turkey Bowl I took part in was 1998, when I was 24 years old.

In that game, I borrowed cleats from the brother of former Soundgarden and current Audioslave lead singer Chris Cornell. The cleats were too tight, somehow I wrenched my back and I've had disc problems ever since.

Enough reminiscing, there are two games on Thanksgiving and its time for predictions! INDIANAPOLIS@DETROIT
Prediction: Colts 38-27
Peyton Manning is just too good and now that cornerbacks are hands off on receivers, Manning is redefining his position. Peyton has 35 touchdown passes through 10 games and his previous season high was 33. Expect a minimum of three TD passes.

For the Lions, Joey Harrington threw for just 91 yards last week and takes on a Colts defense that leads the NFL in takeaway/giveaway at +12. It's still not a smart move to start either defense. Offensive players to start are Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and either Colts TE (Dallas Clark and Marcus Pollard). The only play for the Lions is WR Roy Williams. Az Hakim is out with injury and Williams will be the only reliable target available for Harrington.

Game Notes: Thanksgiving football tradition began in Detroit in 1934. The Colts last played on Thanksgiving in 1965. That day, Baltimore and Detroit tied at 24-24. Check out the Colts uni's as they go retro with jersey's form the 1956 team.

Prediction: Cowboys 23-20
Three reasons to watch this game: Thanksgiving football is more American than baseball and apple pie, Drew Henson will most likely make his first NFL start and the Jones brothers face off. Thomas Jones will have a huge day against an atrocious Dallas defense that ranks 25th in the NFL. T. Jones will likely get most to all of the carries with the A-Train complaining about playing time this week.

For Dallas, Drew Henson looks like a future star and TE Jason Whitten has emerged as one of the top-5 at his position. Also, rookie RB Julius Jones may fair as well as his big brother because the Bears rushing defense is 28th in the NFL.

Game Notes: Do you remember? (11/26/81) The Cowboys beat the Bears 10-9 in the only Turkey Day meeting between the two teams .Dallas has NFL worst takeaway/giveaway at -16.

Stay tuned..The rest of my NFL wrap sheet will be available Saturday morning. HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!!!!!
