Miami Cornerback Could Be Chiefs Top Target

With the 2004 season nearly all but over, it's never too early for a look at whom the Chief's could select with their first pick in the 2005 draft. With need on the defense highly-rated cornerback Antrel Rolle could be just the shut down corner the Chiefs need next year.

For draft junkies like myself April 23 and 24, 2005 will be here before we know it. The Chiefs after a week eleven loss to the Patriots; now have the number ninth pick overall and there are several players who could make an immediate impact on the defense in 2005.

The top two priorities will be a run stopping DT or a cover CB that would enable the Chiefs defense to regain some respectability. The best player on my board right now in the ninth pick range is Miami CB Antrel Rolle 6' 1" 200lbs.

If you may remember last year's performance against Pittsburgh WR Larry Fitzgerald (2004's 3rd overall pick). It was the only game last season Fitzgerald did not have a catch. Not team is throwing his way this year and his run support and back field tackles would make him a very good catch for the Chiefs. Other CBs in the first round - Marlin Jackson 6'-0", 210 Michigan, Corey Webster 6'-0", 205 LSU, and Carlos Rogers 6'-0", 200 Auburn.

At defensive tackle, Florida State's Travis Johnson is a mean and lean 6'-4" 292 pound menace on the field. He is the best in the nation at his position. This guy stops the run as well as anyone on Saturdays. He's in the back field all day long. Other DTs in the first round who could help the Chiefs - Shaun Cody 6'-4", 285 USC, Anttaj Hawthorne 6'-3", 315 Wisconsin, and Gerald Anderson 6'-2", 325 Georgia.
