Warpaint Illustrated has confirmed that the agents representing both Jeremiah Trotter and Ed Hartwell are both hoping to conclude a contract that would bring both linebackers to the Chiefs. Hartwell and his agents have reduced the number of teams down from 15 a day ago to three and the Chiefs are in that mix. His agent Herald Lewis has told him to stay in Kansas City because he wants him to sign with the Chiefs.
Hartwell would move to the outside linebacker spot if Trotter was signed. Trotter and his agent Jimmy Sexton are working right now on an agreement that would insure that he becomes a Chief before leaving town this evening.
Both Hartwell and Trotter were expected to leave Arrowhead at 3:00 this afternoon but both players had a one on one talk with Dick Vermeil and apparently that worked. Both players went to private offices at the stadium and began discussions with their agents. At 6:00 Trotter left Arrowhead and mentioned to reporters that he might make other visits.
Samari Rolle and his wife left for the airport so they could attend the birthday of their daughter tomorrow. He had a personal chauffer and that was Dick Vermeil. Rolle spoke to reporters before he left and indicated it was his preference to have a deal done by Friday. He told the media that he has no other visits scheduled. That means a deal with the Chiefs could be looming as soon as tomorrow.
If the Chiefs can sign all three veteran free agents, they can pick and choose to add even more depth. In fact, they could still make a play for Patrick Surtain who is still lamenting in Miami waiting to visit the Chiefs.
Stay tuned to Warpaint Illustrated as we'll update the news as soon as we can pin down our sources inside the Chiefs organization.
