Day 2: Training Camp Quick Hitters (PM Practice)

Today was definitely a day for defense. While the offense got their shots in, the first team looked good, and the second team looked even better. The defense got good pressure, and made some explosive plays.

Running back Jonathan Smith fumbled the ball after a nice run. The fumble was recovered by cornerback Alphonso Hodge.

Cornerback Patrick Surtain was the player of the day, he had solid coverage all day long, blasted running back Priest Holmes in the backfield, and had the play of the day with a sweet effortless interception over the shoulder.

Linebacker Kawika Mitchell continued his good play. He's still flowing to the ball very well, and on one play joined with defensive end Eric Hicks to force quarterback Trent Green to throw one in the dirt in front of Tony Richardson.

Linebacker Kendrell Bell established his presence with some nice plays. He finally got the opportunity to see show why the Chiefs signed him. He was diagnosing plays quickly, and exploding to the ball.

Defensive end Carlos Hall killed a Jonathan Smith run about seven yards in the backfield. He had a solid day, overall, but that was an impressive play.

Safety Greg Wesley joined in with some nice coverage on Kris Wilson, batting the ball away on a deep out route.

We saw the first of running backs Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes in the same backfield. What was interesting about the plays were Larry Johnson got the ball on both plays, once on a swing pass, and the other on nice inside run.

Speaking of Larry Johnson, he had another solid day. He looks very explosive, and is picking his way very well. There was a run where it looked like the whole side was just shut down and somehow he managed to squeak through. He can definitely play.

In one of the funnier moments of camp, wide receiver Darrell Hill had a nice run on a swing pass, putting a juke move on the corner and then speeding towards the end zone. Offensive Coordinator Al Saunders was right behind him, chasing him up the field screaming, "That's right, Darrell! Get that touchdown!" No one realized Saunders was that fast.

Punter Dustin Colquitt is amazing. His punts continue to give the returners fits. Like in Mini-Camp ‘the human joystick' Dante Hall dropped several more of his punts. Top Stories
