Day 11: Training Camp Quick Hitters (PM Practice)

After the intensity of Satuday night's practice, Head Coach Dick Vermeil decided to allow the players a light afternoon of practice. The players participated in drills in shells and the hats of their choosing.

First off, Larry Johnson has been the strongest looking player in camp. He's looked great running and catching the ball, and he's looked great in pass protection. This afternoon he ripped off several great runs.

Defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham played some four linebacker sets in short yardage situations today. Linebackers Kawika Mitchell, Kendrell Bell, Keyaron Fox and Derrick Johnson were on the field together. Johnson had what would have been some great stops today and is really playing like he has a chip on his shoulder. Fox is playing strong, also, and making a push to rejoin the first string.

Cornerback Dexter McCleon is continuing his strong play at the right cornerback spot. He gave up a few catches, but overall he is looking very good.

It looks like kick returner Dante Hall has figured out punter Dustin Colquitt's kicks. He didn't have a single drop all day. Speaking of Colquitt, all his punts had a hang time of 4.9 seconds or better. It looks like the Chiefs have found the answer to last season's kicking woes.

Wide Receiver Marc Boerigter looks like his old self. He's been running great patterns, cutting well, and his hands are looking sharp. Boerigter had a great day, making one diving catch for what would have been a touchdown, and another great catch where he had to go high across the middle.

Fullback Robert Holcombe got some time at halfback today. He ran hard, and displayed good vision and solid hands. Holcombe looks like he could be a viable option if the Chiefs get hit by the injury bug.

Safety Greg Wesley looks ready to play. He's been making plays all over the field.

Defensive tackle Junior Siavii looks like he's at least a week away.

In other Chiefs news, tight end Tony Gonzalez did not work out with the team but was working out in the weight room. Vermeil indicated that he was felling better.

Guard Will Shields was out on the field but he didn't participate in any team drills.

Sunday morning's practice was regulated to special teama drills and formations.
