Nuge's Blog: Roster Ruminations Part 2

Hey, it's time for me to take a look at the roster again before the game against St. Louis. I'm really interested in what's going on at the wide receiver spot right now. The competition is definitely heating up, and the Chiefs have some pretty good players vying for those positions.

But first, let's touch on the defensive tackles. After watching them closely over the last two games, that position really concerns me. Don't get me wrong, I like Ron Edwards, and when he and James Reed are in the game, at least they aren't getting blown off the ball. Having said that, I'm waiting a for someone to get into the backfield and/or command double teams. Guys have been looking pretty good in practice, but a lot that isn't translating into the games. I don't have an explanation for that.

The battle at the wide receiver position is getting a little convoluted. At this point, Eddie Kennison and Samie Parker are the starters. It looks like Dante Hall will be the third wide receiver. Craphonso Thorpe's injury probably cost him the opportunity to compete for the starting job. During OTAs and the first day or so camp he was making a strong bid. He tried to fight through the injury, but ended up being shelved for most of camp anyway.

In his absence, rookie Jeff Webb's being getting his reps, even spilling into the game after Thorpe was healthy again. Suddenly, Thorpe is in a battle for the fourth spot. I have a feeling once the roster finally shakes out, it will be Kennison, Parker, Thorpe, Webb and Dante, unless they keep six. In that case, it's between Nate Curry and Jeris McIntyre. That means the writing is on the wall for Darrell Hill. Top Stories
