The competition all along KC's offensive line will be intense in this year's training camp. The starters are almost set in stone, but the backups will be in for a fight.
Richardson figures to be in that mix. He's already the backup to starting right tackle Damion McIntosh, and was impressive through OTAs and training camp.
The Chiefs' goal this offseason was to beef up the starting line, and with a good training camp Richardson will give the team options. If he plays well enough, he could start opposite fellow rookie tackle Branden Albert.
That would give the Chiefs options to move McIntosh inside to guard.
Richardson joins fourth-round pick Will Franklin and fifth-round pick Brandon Carr as the only rookies to sign with the Chiefs so far.
As of Wednesday there was little progress in contract talks with the Chiefs' 2008 first-round draft picks. Representatives for both Glenn Dorsey and Branden Albert are waiting for other players to be slotted in the first round before they get into serious negotiations with the Chiefs.
