Haley Accepts Chiefs Job

FOXSports.com has learned that the Kansas City Chiefs have offered the position of head coach to Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley and he has accepted. The two parties are now trying to work out terms of a contract agreement.

According to Glazer, Haley at the last minute cancelled a scheduled trip to Hawaii for this weekend's Pro Bowl. Though the Chiefs have made no official announcement on the hire, it's been reported in most NFL circles that Haley became the leading candidate for the Chiefs' job the last several days.

This is the first major hire for new Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli, who spent nearly 10 days interviewing potential candidates. It appears he may have found the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

If Haley is hired it brings into question the future of Chiefs' offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Based on the fact that none of KC's offensive coaches (less Dick Curl) have left the organization and based on the fact we're already into February, Gailey and his staff may have a chance to stay on for the 2009 season.

One thing is certain - if Haley is KC's new head coach he will have to rebuild the entire defensive staff.
