Chiefs Fire Chan Gailey

The Chiefs have fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

Gailey's firing comes on the heels of a dismal preseason game in which the Chiefs failed to score an offensive touchdown and could not throw the football with quarterback Tyler Thigpen under center. Thigpen replaced the injured Matt Cassel, who suffered a knee sprain on the game's third offensive play.

The Chiefs have struggled on offense all preseason, with the first team scoring just one touchdown in three games, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Gailey came to the Chiefs a year ago after former coach Herm Edwards picked him to replace Mike Solari as offensive coordinator. Gailey was one of the few coaches from Edwards' staff who was retained by the new regime.

It's unknown if the Chiefs have a replacement coordinator in mind. It's possible Haley, a former offensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals, could begin calling plays himself.

UPDATE, 10:45 AM: According to KcChiefs.com, Gailey has been "relieved" of his offensive coordinator duties. His status with the team will be addressed at today's press conference.
