It's been awfully quiet in the nation's capital this off-season, as Washington fans are praying their franchise quarterback rehabs well from an ACL injury and is ready for the beginning of the 2013 fall campaign. One also tends to be a little silent at this time of the year when you don't have much cap space or a first round pick.
The Redskins have quietly made some moves. They recently signed quarterback Pat White. They have also added a couple of former of Buccaneers, who both started in Tampa at some point in offensive tackle Jeremy Trueblood and cornerback E.J. Biggers. Washington lost a couple of defensive veterans in cornerback DeAngelo Hall and outside linebacker Lorenzo Alexnader.
1) Defensive Backs
The Redskins needs to net likely three secondary guys in this year's draft. That makes things tough when you only have seven selections. Their first pick is at No. 51 overall. Certainly they will have some good options at both safety and cornerback with that pick. There's a chance one of the elite safeties falls so keep an eye on Eric Reid, Matt Elam, and Jonathan Cyprien. But that may be wishful thinking if you are a Washington fan. Certainly D.J. Swearinger could be there or they could wait and see what's there in round three or four.
Cornerback is another story. At some point in the late first, early second I suspect a run at this position. There could be as many as seven or eight off the board by the time the Redskins are first up. If not, they should count themselves lucky and take the highest rated DB on their board.
2) Right Tackle
Trueblood is a serviceable right tackle. He's a role player or a guy that's good in pinch off the bench. Washington still needs to identify and draft a starting right tackle of the future. But with the secondary such a pressing issue they may have to wait until the next draft unless they really do their homework and find a player late in the draft.
3) Wide Receiver
When healthy Pierre Garcon is a nice big play threat. Still, they could use another outside target to compliment the playmakers they do have on this offense.
