Because Reggie Wayne has yet to speak about the Indianapolis Colts’ Friday announcement that they will not re-sign the 14-year star wide receiver, how about sharing video highlights from interviews with No. 87 this season?
Inquiring minds obviously want to know if Wayne will stick to his words from this past season and retire. He repeatedly said he couldn’t see himself playing elsewhere.
Or will he take the time to let his 36-year-old body heal and perhaps the telephone will ring with some interest from another team? Wayne underwent surgery to repair a left torn triceps after finishing the season playing with one healthy arm.
A decision was expected at some point on whether the franchise leader in games played and victories would return. But for some, this end seemed too sudden, just a few days before free agency begins Tuesday. The Colts’ statement said the timing allows Wayne to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Fans understandably wrestled with their emotions. It was the kind of morning news — the email release arrived at about 10:30 a.m. — that drives social media. Reactions were mixed. Some thought Wayne deserved a more meaningful send-off. Others were quick to say the business decision was necessary, that he was no longer the player selected for six Pro Bowls and named All-Pro three times.
Until Wayne shares his thoughts, here’s a tribute video.
