Nick Harper Arrested

In what is quickly becoming a bizarre offseason for the Colts, cornerback Nick Harper added his name to the list of Colts whose personal problems have hit the newswire in a less than flattering manner.

Veteran defensive back Nick Harper was jailed this weekend for a domestic violence incident that left his wife, Danielle, with an eye contusion. Harper will likely spend the entire weekend in jail as he must appear before a judge before he can be released on the misdemeanor charge.

Harper's wife was treated at the scene by paramedics. The cause of the incident is under investigation, but reports state that no weapons were involved.

Harper was re-signed by the Colts during the offseason to a deal with base salaries of $700,000 for both 2005 and 2006. It's unknown if he received a signing bonus or any other bonus incentives in the deal.

Over the past few weeks, running back Dominic Rhodes' wife was arrested after showing up unexpectedly at a restaurant and allegedly hitting the woman he was dining with. Rookie cornerback Marlin Jackson learned he was being sued in a civil suit for $10 million in regards to a 2003 incident in which he hit a man at a party. And safety Mike Doss is awaiting word from a grand jury as to whether he will have to go to trial on charges related to allegedly firing a gun into the air outside a nightclub and carrying a concealed weapon.

The rash of personal off-field problems is a rarity for the Colts, who have established and maintain high standards for player conduct.
