Summer School Updates

ColtPower has been gathering information for the past week from a variety of sources close to the NFL and the team to provide you with updates on the defensive tackle and middle linebacker positions, four rookies, and another player who has reportedly been missing workouts due to offseason surgery.

Gary Brackett is making a good showing not only at middle linebacker, but with some intelligent, inspired work on special teams at minicamp. One of our sources told ColtPower that in his opinion, Brackett is the clear standout on special teams right now and some of the rookie hopefuls that need to make the team primarily through special teams are watching his play carefully and trying to follow his lead.

While he's not immune to rookie mistakes, one source told ColtPower that first-round pick Marlin Jackson is starting to look a bit more comfortable and confident than most of the rookies at this very early stage. Defensive end Jonathan Welsh is running a close second.

Rookie linebacker Chris Laskowski is reportedly getting some work at the weakside linebacker spot behind Cato June and Gilbert Gardner. According to one source, Laskowski is showing good speed as he takes reps in non-contact drills on both sides of the kickoff and punt special teams units.

The Colts defensive line is showing a spirited, aggressive attitude during workouts, working very smoothly as a unit according to another report we received. While Montae Reagor is holding down the right tackle position just fine, ColtPower has been told that Josh Williams is getting the most reps at left tackle right now with the first team defense.

Rookie running back Anthony Davis is showing the promise that the Colts apparently hoped for when they selected him in the seventh round of the draft. One NFL analyst said that if he can stay healthy, Davis should pass James Mungro on the depth chart before the start of the season.

ColtPower has also learned that former Penn State LB Deryck Toles has missed time during summer school due to offseason surgery. According to our source for that news, the surgery was to correct a groin-related problem. Toles is expected to be ready for training camp and is projected to compete at the weakside linebacker position.
