Gandy had a very good summer school and camp, apparently allowing him to become the first rookie out of the Colts' draft class of 2005 to be moved up to starter status. Although Gandy can play center, he played his first three seasons at Texas Tech in a three-man rotation at left and right guard.
In other roster news, the Colts released six players on Thursday.
LB Deryck Toles and Keyon Whiteside were both injury -related releases. As reported in an earlier Premium Members column, Toles had offseason surgery for a groin-related problem and hadn't practiced during summer school.
LB Dominique Sims, DE Blake Lobel, TE Tory Humphrey and LB Mikal Baaqee were also released.
