WR Davon Fowlkes out of Appalachian State was placed on waivers on Monday by the Colts to make room for RB Vashon Pearson out of Mississippi. The departure of Fowlkes this early was a bit of a surprise since he was expected to compete for a job as a returns specialist. He is the all-time record-holder in his conference for punt return yardage. He also caught 204 passes for 23 touchdowns during his collegiate career.
Over the weekend, DB Jarrell Weaver's contract was terminated via waivers to make room for WR Roscoe Crosby out of Clemson. The University of Miami alumni was signed to the Colts practice squad last December after spending most of last season in the Jets training camp and practice squad.
Weaver's greatest talent was on special teams. During his senior season he was voted the Special Teams Player of the Year by his teammates and coaches with seven tackles and a blocked punt.
