A published report by the AP says that new Colts linebacker Keith O'Neil didn't travel to Baltimore with the team for personal reasons. A spokesman for the Colts said that O'Neil's absence was not related to an injury.
The former Cowboy, who joined the team early this week after being claimed off of waivers was expected to play as part of the special teams coverage units.
With this latest development, that means the Colts have just four healthy players at the linebacker postions -- the three starters plus backup Rob Morris. Gilbert Gardner, the weakside backup linebacker was declared out due to an ankle problem.
The odd and sudden absence of O'Neil raises questions about his current roster status in light of the many moves the Colts have made the past week, which included the release of safety Dexter Reid, another special teams player, shortly after he had joined the team.
But if O'Neil's roster status is indeed in question, it's an odd time for it when the Colts are so thin at linebacker.
ColtPower will continue to monitor this latest player news and will pass on any new information as we obtain it.
