As a result of Doss' return to the roster, the Colts decided to waive undrafted rookie offensive lineman Matt Ulrich out of Northwestern.
However, Ulrich's release might be short-lived since they also announced the release of two other players from the practice squad. That could partially be a manuever to retain Ulrich should he clear waivers.
Offensive linemen Trevor Hutton and recently acquired Clint Stockdorn were both released from the eight-man practice squad. Hutton's release is a surprise as he's been associated with the team for over a year, spending time on the Colts practice squad last season and even seeing action as a reserve in four games. He was designated by the Colts to play in NFL Europe during the offseason.
Hutton would be eligible to be re-signed to the practice squad.
The Colts' release of Stickdorn could be in preparation for another roster move as they have indicated that they want to add another linebacker since they lack depth due to injuries to Rocky Calmus and Gilbert Gardner. By creating another vacancy on the practice squad, the Colts could waive another active roster player in hopes of moving him to the practice squad, or could simply sign a linebacker to that squad.
Former Colts linebackers Chris Laskowski and Nick Hannah would certainly be good candidates for a practice squad position if they decide to go that route for added depth.
