Power Player of the Week

Last week marked another team effort by the defense with no one dominating the scoring, but plenty of players earning points.

ColtPower reviews the game tape weekly and awards points for the following "Power Plays: sacks, big hits, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, interceptions, pressure that helped create an interception, and stopping a drive/ending a possession. A player can be awarded multiple points on one play. For example, a sack that occurs on third-down to force a punt would result in two points being awarded. Points can also be split if more than one player was directly involved in the Power Play.

Below are the Power Players for Game 9 and below that you'll find the year-to-date leaders based on the games scored beginning with Game 5.

Larry Tripplett
(1 point)
No one player was awarded more than a single point in this week's scoring, but the timing of Tripplet's sack in the fourth quarter with the Texans down by just 14 points at the Indy 29 was pivotal. The four-yard loss stopped their momentum and led to the Colts getting the ball back without allowing Houston to narrow the gap, ending their hopes of staying in the game with just 7 minutes remaining.

2T. Jason David (1 point): Nice open field tackle on the Texans' first possession to force a punt.

2T. Corey Simon (1 point):
In the second quarter, Simon made a huge stop on a 3rd-and-1 play. The Texans were going to try again, but a false start made them change their mind and they punted.

2T. Cato June (1 point):
In the second quarter, June teamed up with Gary Brackett to stop a receiver short of a first-down, forcing a punt. Then he teamed up with Montae Reagor for a sack in the third quarter.

2T. Montae Reagor (1 point):  Shared credit for a sack with Cato June in the third quarter. Teamed up with Nick Harper to force David Carr out of bounds short of a first down in the fourth quarter, forcing a punt.

2T. Robert Mathis (1 point):  Forced a fumble on a Texans kickoff return that was recovered by Houston in the third quarter.

2T. Joseph Jefferson (1 point):  In the third quarter, Jefferson knocked a pass away on a third-down play, forcing a punt.

2T. Mike Doss (1 point):  Made a nice open field tackle in the third-quarter to force a field goal attempt after the Texans got great field position off of a fumble on a punt return.

2T. Dwight Freeney (1 point): Sacked David Carr with under 5 minutes remaining in the game.

10T. Gary Brackett (.5 point): Teamed up with Cato June on a tackle in the second quarter to force a punt.

10T. Nick Harper (.5 point):
