It's going to be an interesting offseason for Colts wide receiver Troy Walters -- and not just because he's an unrestricted free agent. Walters has signed on as an intern coach with the Berlin Thunder this spring. Each NFL Europe team has a total of four internships, two that are for training camp only, and two that stay with the team for the entire spring season. The positions allow current and former NFL players to get a taste of what it takes to be a successful coach, and the planning and evaluation that goes into the daily routine.
In addition to Walters, a pair of former Colts are also taking advantage of the opportunity. Lions tight end Marcus Pollard is working with the Rhein Fire. Former Colts quarterback Cory Sauter has joined the staff of the Hamburg Sea Devils.
In other NFL Europe news, former Colts draft pick and kicker David Kimball out of Penn State was assigned to the Frankfurt Galaxy. Kimball is one of a handful of players designated for duty in the spring league by the Oakland Raiders. In a recent practice, Kimball nailed a 56-yard field goal attempt.
The NFL Europe season kicks off on March 18th.
