Joseph Addai is a Colt!
The Indianapolis Colts filled arguably their most glaring need by drafting LSU running back Joseph Addai with their first round draft pick.
Addai shows the versatility the Colts were looking for to replace Edgerrin James. At 6'0, 215 he ran a 4.40 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Along with his blazing speed, Addai is a powerful runner, capable of taking it between the tackles.
Regarded by many as the best pass blocker at the running back position in this year's draft, Addai also has very good hands and lined up as a wide receiver for the Tigers at times.
Addai averaged 4.9 yards per carry and scored nine touchdowns in 2006. He also had 20 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown.
ColtPower's Ed Thompson spoke with Addai's agent, Ian Greengross, at the draft, "This was something we expected with all the efforts Joseph put forth during his collegiate career. We anticipated he would be selected towards the end of the first round. We are very excited because we knew the Colts would be a good fit for him," he said.
It is likely Addai will have a chance to compete with veteran Dominic Rhodes for the starting running back position in training camp this summer.
