Former Colts wide receiver Chris Doering ('96-'98) learned that he won't be playing for the AFC South rival Texans this season after all. Doering was signed to a one-year deal by Houston back on April 11th, but that contract has been terminated, making him a free agent for the second time in 2006. Doering played for the Steelers over the past three seasons, but has also played for the Redskins and the Broncos during his ten-year NFL career.
Prior to Doering learning of his release, former Colts offensive lineman Trevor Hutton ('04-'05) got happier news. He signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons. During his two-year association with the Colts, Hutton played in four regular season games. Last year, following training camp, he had a brief practice squad assignment before being released in mid-September.
Hutton has been developing his skills, gaining experience in NFL Europe prior to the 2005 season with the Amsterdam Admirals. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound guard out of Utah State also took advantage of an Arena Football opportunity earlier this year, playing for the Los Angeles Avengers.
