Last summer wide receiver Levon Thomas was a rookie wide receiver out of Georgia Tech who was trying to make the Colts roster. As an undrafted free agent, he faced a crowded competition, and ironically, this summer will be no different. He could even enter the mix of what will be one of the most hard-fought camp battles as a returns specialist.
Thomas, who was waived by the Colts at the end of August last year, was picked up by the New Orleans Saints and spent most of the season on their practice squad. He was promoted to the 53-man roster for one game in early December before returning to the practice squad.
But this week, New Orleans put the wide receiver on waivers. The Colts noticed, put in a claim, and won the right to add him to their roster. The addition of Thomas gives the Colts another big, physical receiver similar in frame to Reggie Wayne. He's 6-foot-one and weighs in at roughly 200 pounds.
Thomas finished his college career with 66 catches for 928 yards (14.1 avg.) and six TDs. During his senior year he pulled in a career-high 32 passes for 489 yards and three touchdowns. He also had averaged 22.1 yards per kickoff return that season.
