ColtPower has learned that Indianapolis has waived rookie kicker Shane Andrus, offensive lineman Cody Campbell and wide receiver Brian Hare from their roster.
Campbell was attempting to make the roster after spending last year on injured reserve. During a practice with the team, his pectoral muscle tore loose from a shoulder tendon, requiring surgery to correct the problem. Campbell came back healthy and ready to go this year, but the Colts added more young talent to their offensive line through the draft.
Andrus was a great find by the Colts, impressing them earlier this year at a tryout with his booming kickoffs and by making 9 out of 10 field goal attempts. He looked as though he would be a serious contender for the kicking job up until Adam Vinatieri was unexpectedly signed as a free agent.
Andrus impressed the Colts with his overall athleticism and conditioning during workouts, not to mention a great attitude. Look for him to land with an NFL team that has an open competition for their kicking spot right now.
Hare was one of many receivers that the Colts brought into camp as an undrafted free agent. The former Purdue player was at a bit of a disadvantage as the Colts will likely use a roster spot or two on wide receivers who can also be effective returns specialists. Hare has light experience in that area on punt returns, but nothing of the caliber of some of the other candidates in a very crowded field.
The Colts also put undrafted rookie Kyle Killion, an undrafted rookie out of Indiana, and defensive lineman Gabe Nyenhuis on injured reserve. Killion has been bothered by a hamstring problem while Nyenhuis has a groin injury.
