Colts Without a Kicker Today

Before the Colts afternoon practice session on Monday, rookie kicker Shane Andrus learned that he was being waived and he packed up to head home. A few hours later, the Colts only remaining kicker hurt his ankle.

Rookie kicker Shane Andrus was sent home by the Colts on Monday as they needed to make some room on the roster for some defensive additions to plug holes in their depth chart created by injuries.

Today the Colts are undoubtedly wishing they had picked someone other than Andrus.

With the talented kicker out of Murray State now dangling on the waiver wire until 4:00 p.m.(ET), the Colts don't have a kicker at practice today. Late yesterday, veteran Adam Vinatieri reportedly sprained his ankle while doing some personal training. While initial reports indicate it's not severe, his ability to kick this weekend against Seattle is up in the air. And the Colts don't have a kicker for their training camp practices in the interim either unless Hunter Smith dusts off his old kickoff skills.

If Andrus clears waivers, which is probably no better than a 50-50 chance at this point with some teams still desperately seeking kicking help, the Colts are expected to reel him back into Terre Haute later today. Otherwise, they may need to sign someone else to kick against the Seahawks on Sunday.

ColtPower will continue to bring you updates to this story until Andrus' status is determined.
