Former Colts Already Looking for New Teams

Close to thirty percent of all the players currently on an NFL roster will be looking for new opportunities or practice squad assignments by Saturday evening. But a number of former Colts have already been cut this week.

The final week and a half of the NFL preseason is the toughest time for players who have worked hard pursuing their dreams of making an NFL roster. The first round of cuts were made by teams earlier this week to get down to the league-mandated limit of 75. By late Saturday afternoon they will have to go even deeper, releasing 22 more players.

Here's a list of former Colts who have already been released during the first wave of cuts and early final cuts:

OL Trevor Hutton - He was one of the lucky ones. Cut by the Atlanta Falcons earlier this week, Hutton was offered a job by Indianapolis - at least for this week's final preseason game - since he already knows the offense.

OL Rob Hunt - A former fifth-round pick by Indianapolis, Hunt landed on the Broncos practice squad and then did a stint in NFL Europe this past spring. But he was released this week.

WR/KR Gerran Walker - The undrafted rookie free agent out of Lehigh University found out he was being waived the day he reported to training camp in Terre Haute. The next day he was claimed by the Chargers, but he wasn't able to establish himself quickly enough in San Diego.

DB Anthony Floyd - After being added to the Colts roster following his release by Buffalo back in 2003, Floyd spent time on Indianapolis' roster through the 2005 season. The Texans picked him up back in January and sent him to NFL Europe where he played for the Berlin Thunder. His release in the first round of cuts was a real surprise.

K David Kimball - The former 7th-round pick out of Penn State was in NFL Europe this spring, but it didn't help him win a spot with the Raiders.

RB Ran Carthon - After spending time on the Colts' 53-man roster for portions of both the 2004 and 2005 seasons, Carthon was added to the Packers practice squad near the end of last season. He signed with the Seahawks this year, who are very deep in talent at the running back position, and wasn't able to work his way up the depth chart.

WR/KR Brad Pyatt - His best chance to make the Rams roster was as a returns specialist. But the Rams opted to give the job to rookie Marques Hagans instead.
