"Yes. Right now, we're just trying to stay within ourselves, learning not to turn the ball over. But eventually here, as games go on, you're going to get more and more comfortable with the offense and being able to start cutting it loose a little bit and getting some throws in, when to know to take that chance and when to know you can't take that chance. There becomes a time and it has to come with the progression of the offense, not just me, but with everybody around me. As far as the whole offense goes, we're all just getting more and more comfortable with this thing."
(on still being expected to perform no matter the conditions or getting
"Yes. You can't look at that. If there are plays that need to be made, they need to be made, and it's not, ‘We called a three-count before and I got blasted,' or ‘Maybe I hesitated a little bit.' You can't play that way. You just have to keep on going, trust your guys that they're going to pick up that blitz or pick up everything that's going on around them. Or sometimes, it's on me. Sometimes I have to get the ball out quicker or whatever it may be. That's just the thing we have to progress to."
(on if he gets a rush watching opposing QBs like Brett Favre and Peyton Manning)
"It's exciting, but the main thing is, I have to focus, maybe pick up a thing or two that they're doing that I could benefit from. I pretty much study those two guys anyway. So, it's exciting playing against these guys, but in order to be successful, you have to start putting yourself in the situation as far as, ‘I can do that too,' or, ‘I think I can do that too,' or, ‘Let me show you that I can do that too.' You have to start thinking on the same level as these guys if you want to be successful in this league. So, right now we're just focused on what our offense is trying to get accomplished."
(on WR-Lee Evans being a good deep target)
"Pretty much the whole time we've been together we've been connecting. But this year, it just seems like we felt that we should have connected, I guess I can count about six or seven times off the top of my head. Just something went wrong here, something went wrong there and we just have to pick it up, whether it's half a second longer or get the ball out quicker, whatever it takes. There's been some chances where we could actually be more successful. But we have to figure it out as an offense."
(on if it would mean more to beat the Colts)
"Of course. I think every team feels that way. Going up against a team like this, now the fact that they've been undefeated for so long, I think everyone feels that they have a great opportunity going into this game: ‘We have something to prove, here's our opportunity, our chance.' So, there's no difference. We feel the same way, but we also know that they're not going to give us anything or hand us over anything. We have to earn it, we have to take it. So, we'll see how it goes."
(on if he feels any more pressure in a game like this where he feels they
have to match points with the Colts)
"I think that's where teams get themselves in trouble. We're just trying to play smart, obviously, try to convert on third down, keep it third-and-short, keep the ball moving, keep their offense off the field. I think that's everyone's objective. So, use up a little bit of clock, but definitely we have to score points. We have to score touchdowns. That's the emphasis."
(on if he has learned not to run out of the pocket too quickly)
"We're definitely getting there. That was an emphasis with the new coaching staff that they wanted to bring in, just staying in the pocket, finishing our throws, obviously running when necessary, just getting a little bit of two-man or what have you, then you can take off running a little bit if need be. But, definitely never taking off too early, trying not to, staying in there making the throws, making the reads. That's what it's all about."
(on if he has the itch to run)
"I really don't, and that's something that actually Kelly Holcomb always messes with me about. They think I have that itch but I really don't. I really don't want to run. It really doesn't feel too good getting tackled down after down, plus just the normal wear and tear of a quarterback, I don't need to add to that. So, I definitely want to get the ball out of my hands as quick as possible."
