Linebacker Lined Up for Pre-Draft Visit

For anyone who's concerned about the Colts' linebacker situation following the departure of Cato June, I've confirmed that a top-notch linebacker will be flying into Indianapolis in April for a pre-draft visit. Find out the details inside...

If you were a ColtPower Insider last week, you'll remember this exchange from this Q&A feature:

Ed Thompson: Have you heard anything from the Colts on the possibility of a workout? I think you'd be a good fit there as well.

Jon Beason: They're coming April 5th for my individual Pro Day. That's also a great program to play for, especially because I see myself in the mold of a Cato June.

Well, during a follow-up call with Jon this week, he ran through his visits schedule with me, and he said that he's coming to Indianapolis on April 15th and 16th for a pre-draft visit. He's currently got four visits lined up, all on the east coast, which I'll be revealing in a feature on our NFL home page by Thursday morning. A fifth team is also interested, but he may not be able to meet with them unless they can do it on a different date than the one they proposed.

While he doesn't have a visit scheduled with the Patriots as of yet, he did have a personal workout with them which was run by head coach Bill Belichick. And New England has two first-round picks in this draft (24th and 28th overall), and are expected to use one of those picks on a linebacker.

The 6-foot tall, 237-pound backer out of the University of Miami would not only be a good candidate for the weakside linebacker position, but also at the middle linebacker spot. A former safety, Beason has the speed and range to cover the deep zone in Tony Dungy's Tampa-2 defense.

Watch for more on this developing story at ColtPower throughout the month of April as we continue to track the movement of NFL prospects and pre-draft visitors who could be wearing the horseshoe in May.
