Colts kicker Shane Andrus has completed eight games with Hamburg Sea Devils and is making people take notice of his talent. He currently ranks second in the league with 47 points and has converted 11 of 13 field goal opportunities for an impressive 84.6 percent average.
Just a little over a year ago, Shane Andrus was an undrafted kicker who had been out of college for almost two years, but he was still working out on his own at Murray State in hopes of finding an NFL team that would let him compete for a job.
"Murray State's got an older gym that I like. Not a lot of people workout in it and I like secluded gyms" he said in this March, 2006 interview at ColtPower. "I kicked on the main field a couple times a week and trained on my own, did my own thing."
Andrus got an opportunity to tryout for the Colts and spent the summer in Indy's training camp working with Adam Vinatieri prior to being released. But they quickly signed him during the offseason and designated him for NFL Europa.
Andrus was thrilled to have the opportunity, even though he knows Vinatieri is likely to stay put this season. The opportunity to kick in NFL Europa would provide him with the exposure and game film he needed to make GMs around the league better aware of his talent and his booming foot.
Colts fans can help show their support for Shane and his continued efforts to land one of the 32 kicking spots in the NFL by taking a moment to cast your vote for him in the All-NFL Europa League Team balloting.
