Colts Press Pass: Peyton Manning

Colts quarterback talked to the media this week about the preseason and preparing for the Chicago Bears. Read all about it inside...

On how the goals of training camp change after the first preseason game...

"Well, that's just kind of our last real normal week of training camp. We will break camp next Sunday and in the third week we always game plan for that third preseason game and the last game. You are almost getting ready for the opener a little bit because that's going to fall on a short week. This is what we call a ‘Colts get better week.' We use this time to truly improve on our fundamentals, our base offensive plays and really get everything tied down before we get ready for the regular season, because it's right around the corner."

On LaDainian Tomlinson sitting out the whole preseason and how much work a veteran needs in the preseason...

"It seems like it is the constant debate every year. I do like having a couple games to play, especially when you have new players. I think, quarterback and running back, you could probably argue it's different scenarios, so I can't speak for a running back. I do think everybody does need to get hit a couple times, full speed. As far as the quarterback goes, especially if you have new players, a new receiver, a new tight end whatever it may be, a new running back, you need to get out there on the field and play at least a couple games to get your game speed and timing down."

On changing anything because they are playing the Chicago Bears in the preseason...

"It's the second preseason game. We will use this week to go against the Colts and then probably take Saturday and Sunday to get ready for the Bears. Regardless of who we are playing, we really need to use this week to improve on some things. I know coaches are still making evaluations, so it's an important week for us."

On how important the preseason is for a guy like Jim Sorgi...

"Preseason is important for anybody that's not in the starting lineup. It's your chance to play and run the offense in the game. Obviously you are working with different receivers and you might be going against another team's starting defense. I know Jim got a couple of snaps against the Cowboys' starting defense. It is great experience for Jim and Josh (Betts) to get in there and play, and you try to help them anyway you can."
