Colts Press Pass: Bob Sanders

When will safety Bob Sanders return to action? What's he think of the Colts defense this year and the secondary, specifically? Find out the answers to those questions and more directly from Bob Sanders through these media conference highlights.

On his status and when he will be back on the field...

"The plan coming into camp was for me to play the third preseason game, and practice a full week. Practice that week before, which is next week. We are on schedule. Right now I feel good, feel strong, feel fast. I'm definitely excited about it. Looking forward to getting out there and moving around and just getting those reps. You need that game speed before the season starts. Once that first game comes, it will be a huge atmosphere. It's going to be fast, a lot of people running around. So you don't want to go in not having any reps."

On coming back next week and being ready for the season...

"Definitely, I'm excited. Looking forward to it. It's been a long offseason, working real hard. I think I have done a lot to help me from keep being injured. I have worked out. I have lifted a lot, gotten a lot stronger than I have been in the past. I'm definitely excited and I think it's going to be a huge year for me and also our team."

On fellow safety Antoine Bethea...

"I think he is doing a great job. He came on his rookie year and stepped right in. He did some excellent things for us. It's amazing to see a younger guy being able to come in and start as fast as he did. He came right into camp. He started from day one and he stayed healthy throughout the season. And being a safety, I think that is what's most important, is staying healthy. He was able to do that and make some great plays, make some great plays in the Super Bowl for us. I think this year is going to be a huge year for him because most of the time your second year is your best year. I think he has a lot of good things coming up in the near future."

On the secondary as a whole...

"I think we are young, but it's good being young, because you have guys who are looking to work hard, who want to get better, guys that are eager to learn. I think we have a lot of guys who want to play. As long as you have guys doing their job, being where they need to be, I think we have a great chance."

On the defense being more physical this year...

"I do. I think we are going to be physical. We have bigger guys. Our corners are a lot bigger than they have been in the past. Our safeties are also bigger. Speed is there. We always got speed. When you combine those two things, speed and guys being physical, putting their hands on receivers and making tackles, your defense can be real good."
