Colts Postgame Quotes

Following their 41-10 stomping of the Saints, Colts head coach Tony Dungy, Raheem Brock, Matt Giordano, Gary Brackett, Joseph Addai and Rob Morris shared their thoughts on the game. Find out what they had to say inside...

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY

"There was a lot of emotion in our city the last couple of days, and today just even coming over to the stadium you could feel it with our fans. The game was just a great way to cap all that off. I thought our guys played with a lot of energy. The one thing we talked about last night with our young players was NFL games are 60 minutes long and you have to play the whole way and I thought we did that. We were a little bit out of sync, just a little bit off in the first half offensively. They played us differently than we thought they would. They blitzed a lot, came after people in the preseason, played a lot of two-deep coverage, so we had to run the ball. I thought Joseph (Addai) and Kenton (Keith) got us going the second half with the run and when they did come after us, we were able to get some big plays."

On the defense...

"Our defense is kind of exciting to watch. We have a lot of guys with speed that run around and play hard. It was fun, a fun day to watch. The possession at the end of the first half was big. If they take it down and score they go up 17-7 it is a completely different game. That's what football is all about. It takes a good team because you never know how the game is going to go and what is going to unfold. The defense made a big stop there and gave our offense a chance to get going."

On difference in first half play vs. second half...

"That's the funny thing about it, not a real dramatic difference. We just ran the ball a little bit more in the second half. We converted our third downs and we hung onto the ball. We had a chance to take a 14-0 lead, we were driving it and then Reggie (Wayne) has the fumble and all of a sudden that kind of changes the complexion of the first half. But not a lot different other than we just knew we had run the ball a little bit more against their two-deep zones."

On facing New Orleans...

"I thought it was going to be tough to hold these guys down. Watching them on tape last year, what they had done in the preseason, they have a special offense with a lot of weapons. I didn't envision holding them to three points."

RB-JOSEPH ADDAI

On how the game felt...

"It felt good. Coming out in the first game and it started clicking. I mean everything, offense defense and special teams. You can say that we are coming around, but it's the first game and it's a long season."

On what was working so well in the running game...

"The offensive line was doing a great job. You have to be nervous when you have players like Reggie (Wayne) and Marvin (Harrison) on the outside and Peyton (Manning) as a quarterback. It kind of makes it easy."

LB-GARY BRACKETT

On executing the defensive game plan...

"We just wanted to come out and start fast. We wanted to limit some of their offensive plays, go out there and get after them, and I think we got that done."

On the future play of the defense...

"Obviously they were a great offensive team and we limited them to what they could do. There is no reason to think we can't do the same thing in future games."

DB-MATT GIORDANO

On the defense...

"That was exciting. The whole defense did a great job. Everyone played exceptionally well. You just have to tip off your hat to everyone on the defense. We just have to continue to get better now and get ready for next week."

On not giving up a touchdown...

"I think the thought came in the third quarter. We were just making sure that we finished strong. We all played well and that was what we were looking for, not just a couple of players. Everyone that stepped on the field did a great job."

LB-ROB MORRIS

On the play of defense...

"We played very fast and real physical. I think we're a little more physical this year than last year. It was a good start, but it's a long year."

On the more physical play of the defense...

"I think every coach emphasizes that. That's kind of what we're built on - to be fast and physical. I think a lot of it is the personality (of the defense). We have a lot of little, scrawny guys. But, we have a lot of little, scrawny guys that can run and hit somebody."

DT-RAHEEM BROCK

On the development of the young defensive players...

"The older guys have been going out and setting the example for the young guys and they have been following along and doing a good job."

On mentoring Ed Johnson...

"I'm just trying to bring him along and he's got to catch up fast. I think he is doing a good job and just needs to keep getting better every week."

On playing Tennessee next week...

"It's going to be a great challenge going against Vince Young, who beat us last year. They have a lot of our players on their team so it is going to be a great game."
