Just the Facts: Colts 22, Titans 20

Ed Thompson delivers the postgame high-impact facts from the Colts' narrow victory at Tennessee. And find out who he picked as the player of the game from each team as well.

Last Week:  Defeated the Titans, 22-20
Next Opponent:  At Houston (2-0)

Inactive:  DB Michael Coe, DB Brannon Condren, LB Freddy Keiaho, OT Charlie Johnson, OT Michael Toudouze, DT Dan Klecko, LB Rob Morris, DT Quinn Pitcock

Quarterback Peyton Manning threw for 312 yards and a touchdown while completing 28 of 42 pass attempts and throwing one interception. But he finished with a lower quarterback rating (86.6) than Titans QB Vince Young (95.3) ... The Colts' tight ends were very active in this game plan, catching 12 passes -- 7 by Dallas Clark and 5 by Ben Utecht -- compared to 14 by the wide receivers. Clark's seven receptions was tops among the Colts receivers and he caught the only touchdown pass of the day ... Colts RB Joseph Addai got off to a slow start with just 8 yards of rushing in the first quarter ... The Colts were flagged four times for false starts (Ryan Diem, Ben Utecht, Jake Scott, Reggie Wayne).  Diem's false start contributed to a punting situation while Scott's occurred on a second down at the Tennessee 8-yard line. Two plays later, the Colts had to settle for a field goal.

Defense:  While the Colts defense allowed 141 yards of rushing, 53 of those yards were logged by quarterback Vince Young. Indy held Chris Brown to just 34 yards on 12 carries after he had gouged the Jaguars for 175 yards last week ... As projected in our "Five Players to Watch" feature, Bob Sanders was very active in this game, logging a team-leading 11 tackles, 3 quarterback hits and 2.5 sacks. Cornerback Kelvin Hayden finished second in tackles with ten and forced a fumble ... Tyjuan Hagler and Rocky Boiman had to sub for starting weakside LB Freddy Keiaho and strongside LB Rob Morris, respectively. Hagler made five tackles, recovered a fumble and was credited with a pass defensed. Boiman finished the day with one tackle.

Special Teams: T.J. rushing averaged 26.5 yards per kickoff return ... The Colts failed to capitalize on a fumble recovery by Tyjuan Hagler when Adam Vinatieri missed a field goal attempt.

Player of the Game:  Tight end Dallas Clark led all Colts receivers in receptions, caught the only touchdown pass of the day and recovered a fumble early in the game that would have given the Titans the ball at the Indy 30-yard line with the Colts ahead by a 6-0 margin.

Last Week:  Lost at home against Colts, 22-20
Next Opponent:  at New Orleans (0-2)

Inactives:  WR Paul Williams, CB Reynaldo Hill, RB Chris Henry, FB Casey Cramer, G/C Leroy Harris, WR Biren Ealy, DT Randy Starks, DE Bryce Fisher

Vince Young was sacked three times by the Colts, but improved his throwing accuracy, completing 17 of 27 passes for 184 yards ...  Young was the team's leading rusher at halftime with 35 yards ... Tennessee had the edge in time of possession for all but the third quarter ... The Titans offensive tackles kept both Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis from even getting credit for a quarterback hit ... G Jacob Bell had a costly 5-yard false start on a 2nd-and-2 that backed the Titans up 5 yards and led to a punting situation.

Defense:  Tennessee's defense didn't allow Colts running back Joseph Addai to break any big runs, keeping all gains to 9 yards or less. The Colts only managed 81 net yards rushing ... Cornerback Cortland Finnegan's pick of a Peyton Manning pass was the first interception of his pro career. The offense converted the turnover into a touchdown ... Ironically, two of the Titans' top three tacklers on the day were former Colts. LB David Thornton had 10 tackles while CB Nick Harper tied LB Keith Bulluck with eight. Harper was also credited with a pass defensed while Bulluck forced a fumble that was recovered by Indy ... Safety Calvin Lowry was flagged for a facemask during which he turned Colts tight end Ben Utecht's helmet sideways.  The penalty came on a second-and-six, helping the Colts mount a drive that led to a field goal.

Special Teams:  Punter Craig Hentrich dropped all three of his punt attempts inside the Indy 20-yard line ... Michael Griffin averaged 25.2 yards per kickoff return ... LB LeVar Woods made two of the team's five special teams tackles.

Player of the Game:  DE Kyle Vanden Bosch provided plenty of spark to the Titans' gutty effort with three quarterback hits, a sack, four tackles and a blocked extra point. Vanden Bosch teamed up with Antwan Odom on a tackle to end one Colts drive, and his sack forced Indianapolis to punt with 1:46 left in the game, giving his team an opportunity to put together one last drive.
