Guard Ryan Keenan and linebacker Victor Worsley were recently added to the Colts practice squad, while wide receiver Cro Thorpe and tackle Gabe Hall were let go.
Keenan attended Northwestern University and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants following the 2007 NFL Draft. He was waived in the second round of cuts in August and tried out for a number of teams before signing with the Colts.
Worsley, a linebacker out North Carolina, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colts in April, but has been on and off the team since the start of training camp and the preseason. He holds the squat record at North Carolina (622 pounds).
If Cro Thorpe's name sounds familiar, it's because he was Indianapolis' leading receiver in the preseason and the Colts recently added him to the practice squad. Thorpe is a receiver out of Florida State who was originally drafted in the fourth round by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2005 NFL Draft. He has since been in and out of camps and practice squads with various NFL teams; most recently with the Texans, Lions, and Colts.
Gabe Hall played his collegiate ball at Texas Tech and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colts after an initial stint with the Giants earlier this year. He was subsequently waived in August. Hall was only on Indianapolis' practice squad for about a week prior to his release.
The Colts appear to have a strategy of moving players on and off the squad to in order to have a bigger pool of talent to draw from. By periodically adding players for short stints to the practice squad, the Colts are able to provide them with some money and maintain an association with them, perhaps in hopes of keeping them close and interested in returning for next year's training camp.
Worsley and Keenan join QB Josh Betts, TE Gijon Robinson, G Travis Leitko, RB DeCori Buckingham, WRs Trent Shelton and Aaron Brown who have been on the practice squad since it was formed on September 2. The Colts have a ninth player, defensive end Ben Ishola, also assigned to the practice squad as an international development practice squad player.Watch for ColtPower's Scouting Report on new addition Ryan Keenan!
