Colts Postgame Quotes

The Colts failed to emerge victorious, but held a tough Titans team with primarily backup players. See what head coach Tony Dungy, QBs Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi, and safety Bob Sanders had to say about yesterday's game, preparation for the playoffs and more!

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY

"It's disappointing in a lot of ways. I thought we played hard and fought and we really wanted to get that 14th win. We got to see some guys in some situations that were good to see and they got a taste of what type playoff football is all about. We got a lot of things done, we just didn't quite get the score the way we wanted it. But I have to congratulate the Titans, and I think it is a feather in our cap for our division to get three teams in the playoffs. They certainly deserve it. They are going to a tough team to play in there so we're glad we have a week off. We will get some of the banged up guys healed up and get ready to go. I thought our guys did a good job under the circumstances and we just needed a couple more plays at the end."

On tonight's game plan...

"We had some things in mind. We started really wanting to throw the ball and wanted to get Marvin (Harrison) going but that didn't work out tonight, so once that plan was out the window then it really was to get Reggie (Wayne) the 100 catches. That is something that doesn't happen very often. We wanted to do that and we got that done. Didn't score, we had hoped to have the lead when our first group went out. That was probably the one thing we wanted that we didn't accomplish but all in all it wasn't a bad night."

On offensive plan...

"We wanted to be sharp with our first offense. We wanted to move the ball. We thought we were going to throw it more and we did, and we wanted to have the lead. We knew those guys were not going to play the full game so we wanted to try to get the lead and see if we could hold it, and that was the one thing we didn't do. We didn't score when we got down there in the red zone."

On Marvin (Harrison) not playing...

"It was really Marvin and the doctors and Bill (Polian) and I. We just decided it wasn't the time. He had two good days of practice and I think we will get two more good days this coming week and we should be there. So hopefully we will be. It would have been ideal to get a game in but this is not a first-or-second year guy that we are dealing with. This is a Hall of Famer who has caught almost a 1,000 balls from Peyton Manning. I think they will be fine."

QB-JIM SORGI

On his performance...

"Some good, some bad. It's tough when you have limited guys out there with one tight end and two running backs. It was an up and down game. We had a couple of good drives and a couple of so-so drives, and I think that if we get that fourth down on the last play of the game, I think that if we complete that one we go down and score and win the game, but that's neither here nor there now."

On playing if needed in the playoffs...

"I know the offense and I can go in there and do a good job. I feel confident that I can go in there and lead this offense and put up some points, and that's what I'm sticking with. I've been around awhile and this game was good and it was bad. I've got to watch the film get better and learn from it. I thought the guys out there with me, we did a pretty good job."

QB-PEYTON MANNING

On what he got out of the game...

"We played good. Obviously we didn't get the win and that was the main goal. That part of it is disappointing. I just kind of listened to what Coach (Dungy) said he wanted to do and he wanted to play a lot of guys and we did that. Guys got some good experience. Certainly would have been nice to have capped it off with a win though."

On the playoff bye week...

"I think we need to get better. We will prepare for our potential opponents, one of three teams. So we will try to use the time to get ready. That is the whole idea of having the bye week. Certainly from an injury standpoint it's a chance for certain guys to get back, but also a chance to work, to get better as a team, to get an extra week of preparation towards your potential opponent. That is the idea. It's one of the advantages you gain by having a better record and it's important to take advantage of it. The word ‘off week' is not really the proper term. It's an extra week in my opinion to prepare and get better and that is what we need to take advantage of."

FS-BOB SANDERS

On his new contract and long-term security...

"It is exciting. I have always wanted to be here. The organization is great. I think I fit and it's definitely a blessing. My family is excited about it. As long as they are happy I feel good about it. I think in the end everybody was happy and that is a good thing."

On if the pressure/expectations increase with the new contract...

"I don't think so. I am going to continue to play as long as I stay healthy and stay on the field. I always feel like I am going to go out and do my job and play well and always execute and try to win."

On the benefit of the playoff bye week...

"On I think it helps us get healthy. I think we have guys banged up a little bit and it gives us an extra week to see what is going on. The younger guys, get them ready, and just get ourselves back to doing the fundamental things and getting back on the details. That definitely helps when you have a week where you can do that. We will definitely be ready. We will have an extra time to prepare. When the week comes and we know who we're playing we will be excited about it and will be a good week for us."

On being able to stay healthy this year and be effective...

"I think so. That was my main goal coming into this year was making sure I stay healthy and keep getting better. It definitely feels good knowing that I was able to do that and continue to play at a high level week in and week out and make a lot of plays. This defense puts me in great positions to make plays so I definitely have to make sure that I stay healthy. I have been able to do that this year and its been exciting."
