Ron Dayne Considering Dallas?

The Cowboys didn't exactly address the running back position in the draft, though they did use a draft pick to acquire a running back when they traded one of their seventh-round selections to Detroit for the services of three-year veteran Aveion Cason.

The Cowboys clearly had inside information on this one as offensive coordinator/running backs coach Maurice Carthon coached running backs in Detroit last year and is clearly familiar with Cason. A seventh-round pick is not sacrificing much to find out if Cason can provide competition for Troy Hambrick in the quest to replace Emmitt Smith in the Cowboys backfield.

Don't be surprised if inside info lands the Cowboys another running back before training camp in Giants running back Ron Dayne, who is on the trading block and could get cut. Dayne and Cowboys quarterbacks coach Sean Payton have a close relationship. It makes sense for the Cowboys to take a chance on him if he comes free and could be had on the cheap.

The Cowboys didn't address the defensive tackle position in the draft so they will again focus their attention on bringing Michael Myers, who is also being pursued by the Redskins. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that Myers is one of the player he hopes will help them shore up position that is minus 2002 starter Brandon Noble, who signed a free agent deal with the Redskins. The must do something as only the Cowboys have limited experience lining up next starter La'Roi Glover, including Willie Blade, Daleroy Stewart, Jon Nix and Colston Weatherington.

The Cowboys will also target a quarterback in the post draft free-agent market. Look for them to choose between Brian Griese and Ray Lucas when both are cut June 1 from the Broncos and Dolphins, respectively.
