EXPECTED BATTLE OF THE WEEK: CB Patrick Peterson should push for one of the starting cornerback jobs; most likely the one held now by A.J. Jefferson.
OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: There is competition for the No. 2 receiver job among Andre Roberts, Early Doucet, Stephen Williams, Max Komar and Chansi Stuckey. Rex Hadnot is trying to hang on to the starting right guard job. Deuce Lutui is the most likely contender but he's out of shape.
--WR DeMarco Sampson, a seventh-round pick, runs polished routes and has good hands. He was impressive in the first week of training camp.
--FB Anthony Sherman, a fifth-round pick, has shown some solid blocking skills and is expected to be an excellent special teams player.
--RB Ryan Williams, a second-round pick, looks quick and powerful. He's having some trouble picking up the offense, which isn't unexpected.
SS Adrian Wilson tore his right biceps in Saturday's scrimmage. He's going to try to rehab without surgery, and no timetable has been set for his return.
CB Michael Adams might have to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee. Adams has some swelling and might need some meniscus repaired.
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
The Cardinals will continue to search for help along the offensive line and at receiver. At this stage, they are looking for bargains, not to make a big splash. They are rumored to be after several notable names, but aren't going to pay big money.
They were interested in Braylon Edwards and Malcom Floyd but they signed elsewhere. Whisenhunt seems higher on his receiving corps than most observers.
--RB Tim Hightower was traded to the Redskins in return for Vonnie Holliday and a conditional pick, most likely a late round selection.
--RB Beanie Wells is in good shape and has made it through a week of camp injury free. That's something he had trouble doing his first two years in the NFL.
--S Rashad Johnson should be feeling some pressure now that Adrian Wilson is out for an unknown period of time with an arm injury. A third-round pick in 2009, Johnson has yet to play up to expectations.
--RT Brandon Keith appears to still be struggling with his surgically repaired right knee. Keith isn't running well and limps between plays. He estimates he has 85 to 90 percent.
--ILB Stewart Bradley was impressive in his first week with the team and will compete with Paris Lenon for a starting job.
