Matchups: 'Skins at Cowboys

A closer look at which matchups to watch Monday night for the Cowboys' 2011 home opener.

Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware vs. Redskins T Trent Williams — Ware has four sacks in two games and is on pace for 32 for the season. He won't get that number, obviously, but he could pile up a few more against the Redskins.

Williams gave up two sacks in the season opener to Jason Pierre-Paul of the Giants. He was better against the Cardinals in Week 2 but now he faces Ware, who has four career sacks against Redskins QB Rex Grossman in two games.

Cowboys T Doug Free vs. Redskins LB Brian Orakpo — With QB Tony Romo battling fractured ribs and a punctured lung, it's imperative that the Cowboys not only limit the sacks but the hits on the quarterback. That means Free will have to contain Orakpo, the Redskins' best pass rusher and a two-time Pro Bowler.

Free was solid against Orakpo last season but, again, all it might take is one good hit to send Romo back to the sidelines. There can be no mulligans Monday.

Redskins RDE Stephen Bowen vs. Cowboys LG Bill Nagy — It's a homecoming for Bowen, who played the last five seasons for the Cowboys but was only a starter during the second half of 2010. Bowen's main job is to stop the run but he already has a sack and two hurries. Rookie Nagy is a seventh-round pick, who's still adjusting to the rigors of the NFL trenches.
