Cowboys Sign Wide Out

The Cowboys signed Dallas Desperados rookie wide receiver Will Pettis to a one-year contract Wednesday for the rookie minimum of $225,000. Pettis caught 69 passes for 798 yards and 16 touchdowns during the 2003 regular season.

Pettis was also second in voting for rookie of the year in the Arena Football League. Pettis, who played his college ball at Midwestern State, worked out for the Cowboys last week before signing with Dallas earlier this week.

"In roughly 20 minutes of route running, Pettis caught every pass that came his way from Cowboys rookie quarterback Tony Romo," the DallasDesperados official web site reported.

Pettis was used extensively as a cornerback at Midwestern State, before making the transistion over to offense in the AFL.
