Saints Grab Will Pettis

The Cowboys' attempt to sign Dallas Desperados receiver Will Pettis was turned back Friday by the New Orleans Saints, who claimed him during the 10-day waiver period. The Saints acquired Pettis under a new rule that has been established for teams in cities that have both NFL and AFL franchises.

Dallas originally signed Pettis on June 10th, but the Saints used the waiver period to sign officially acquire his services.

Pettis had 69 receptions for 798 yards and 16 touchdowns last year and was considered to be one of the top receivers in the Arena Football League.

The Saints were able to acquire Pettis under a new NFL rule specifically made for the the three NFL teams that also own Arena Football League teams in Dallas, Denver and Detroit. Each team must endure a procedural recallable waiver period when trying to sign a player from their AFL team.
