Exclusive: Jakar Claims He 'Missed Drug Test'
A newsy Dallas Cowboys day might be topped, in terms of actual on-field impact, by the four-game suspension of Jakar Hamilton, who has spent some time working with the first team in nickel packages and as a potential standout on special teams.
"Let this be a lesson for those who are disobedient,'' Hamilton tells CowboysHQ.com in an exclusive statement. "I did not smoke anything. I missed a drug-policy test due to the fact that I was at practice, but regardless, I take full responsibility for my actions."
Hamilton's suspension, which begins at the start of the regular season, may put his Cowboys football future in doubt. The team is saying very little about that, but Hamilton gives us a full statement regarding his suspension.
"First of all I would like to take this time to thank God for this humbling experience. I thank my family for being supportive and forgiving. I ask my coaches and teammates to forgive me and I pray that my mistakes in life will be for others to learn from. I humbly apologize for my past actions. My family of fans and the people here in Texas are the greatest. I ask for your forgiveness. I don't blame anyone else for my shortcomings. I just thank God for another opportunity to come back stronger and wiser. Let this be a lesson for those who are disobedient. I did not smoke anything. I missed a drug policy test due to the fact that I was at practice, but regardless, I take full responsibility for my actions."
There are issues to be raised and questions to be answered regarding the timeline and logistics of Hamilton's claim. But whatever the facts, it changes nothing about a poor decision that leaves the Cowboys defense even poorer.
